WASHINGTON AND HAMILTON

Local author, teacher and historian Tony Williams was the speaker at the Kingsmill Third Thursday Lunch Bunch December meeting. Mr. Williams talk was based on a new book he recently authored, "Washington and Hamilton, The Alliance That Forged America". He compared their backgrounds; Washington was a small Virginia planter, Hamilton a poor boy from the West Indies. How they met, Hamilton was an Artillery Officer in the American Army under Washington's command during the American Revolution. How, after the War, Hamilton was Secretary of the Treasury in Washington's Cabinet. Mr. Williams also told how each of them died. After a short illness, Washington died at his home, Mount Vernon. Hamilton was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr. The talk was followed by a question and answer session.
