WILLIAMSBURG CHRISTIAN ACADEMY NAMES NAYLOR NEW HEAD OF UPPER ELEMENTARY

Williamsburg, Va., March 28, 2017- After an extensive search process, Williamsburg Christian Academy has named Mrs. Cathy Naylor as its new Head of Upper Elementary on Wednesday, March 28th. Mrs. Naylor will assume official duties of the position at the end of the school year.

Mrs. Naylor has been in elementary education for 30 years, and is the current 4th and 5th grade teacher and drama program director at WCA. A graduate of Daemen College in Buffalo with a degree in Elementary Education, Cathy earned her Master's degree in education at the University of Georgia.

"We were blessed to have received numerous resumes from very capable individuals throughout the Williamsburg area and the Commonwealth for this position," explained Head of School Dave Breslin. "Cathy Naylor's resume stood out right away, and as I began conversations with her, it became apparent that Cathy had an exciting, dynamic vision to bring the upper elementary division to the next level. She is a beloved member of the WCA community and we are so excited to welcome her to the executive leadership team."

Through her career, Naylor has taught general classroom education, Chapter I Reading, Gifted and Talented Education, and has developed a Language/Performing Arts Program for children. She has written children's stories and songs of various genres. The songs for her production program have been professionally produced and she is also a published author. One of her stories, 'The Gropples, According to Luke,' was published in 2005.

Naylor has stated that she endeavors to help WCA's Upper Elementary Teachers create unforgettably rich educational experiences for their students. "I am very excited to have the opportunity to contribute what I can to this beautiful school community. And I look forward to working with a staff that is compassionate and professional in all they do," Naylor added in a statement. "I have had the pleasure of bringing improvisational theatre, dinner theatre, travel shows, guest performances, mini enrichment workshops, and interactive educational programs in communication skills to many students throughout the years. I hope I can initiate some of the same activities here at WCA. I would also like to bring in members of our own school community to help enrich our students' learning experience, and to someday, create a simulated micro society, similar to that developed in the Orlando school system, for students to learn about economics and life skills. There are many exciting ventures yet to explore, but what is most exciting for me is spending time each day with people who are like-minded, and who keep the hearts and minds of children as their inspirational focus."

Williamsburg Christian Academy's mission is to provide college preparatory instruction in a culture of grace through personalized learning in academics, arts, and athletics while building relationships that inspire students to serve their community and become Christ-centered leaders.
