WIlliamsburg Resident Gets Service Officer of the Year Award at NARFE Convention

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association supports legislation and regulations beneficial to its members. The 63rd Annual Convention of the Virginia Federation of (NARFE) Chapters was held earlier this month at the Doubletree Hotel on Kingsmill Road. It was the first time in 25 years that Williamsburg was the site of the annual Virginia Federation of Chapters (VFC) conference.

A proud moment at the VFC conference was when Shirley F. Forde received the VFC and Region 10 Service Officer of the Year award. Shirley, a local Williamsburg resident, has served as the local chapter Service Officer for more than decade. In that role, she helped members solve retirement and benefit-related problems, stayed in touch with those with temporary setbacks, and answered a variety of questions by our members. Shirley is a distinguished member of NARFE and the local Williamsburg Chapter 685.

There are 48 chapters and 12,000 NARFE members in Virginia. Over 175 members attended the recent VFC conference representing 38 NARFE chapters throughout Virginia. The local Williamsburg Chapter had the largest delegation with 16 members attending the VFC conference.

The Williamsburg NARFE Chapter meets monthly for lunch, fellowship and interesting guest speakers on a variety of topics. In addition, we have a brief business meeting highlighting legislative updates and retirement issues of importance to our members. If you are interested in joining NARFE and our local chapter, please contact: jeff.fratter@gmail.com.
