We made special arrangements for this week's speaker to join us today, Tuesday. He normally teaches Tuesday mornings at The College of William and Mary, but took time away from Spring Break this week to address our club. Clay Clemmons is a Professor of Government at the College and spoke to us about what's going on politically in Europe, especially post-Brexit. The backdrop to Britain's vote to leave the European Union: the rejection of immigration, the resistance to globalization and political elites - is "rife with parallels" to the political campaign that led up to our own November election. Professor Clemmons, a German country scholar, discussed what we can expect to see happen politically in Europe in the coming months and years, including a possible French exit, probably named "Frexit", and similar pushes in other countries who may resent their loss of power and want out of the European Union also.
