June 10 update:

A woman who was shot in the head during a possible road-rage incident in York was released from the hospital on Thursday, said Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

Jonathan Ray McDonald, 28, of Spotsylvania, is accused of shooting the woman and a passenger in her car in their heads while they were driving on Old Mooretown Road on June 4, Ivey said.

Both of the victims survived the incident.

McDonald is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting from a vehicle, and reckless handling of a firearm.

McDonald was initially held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, Ivey said.

He was transferred to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on Thursday.

Two court dates are scheduled for McDonald’s case.

The reckless handling of a firearm charge was heard in the York General District Court on June 10.

McDonald’s other charges are scheduled to be heard in York General District Court on Aug. 22.

June 8 update:

A Facebook tip lead to the arrest of a 28-year-old man accused of shooting two people in the head during a possible road-rage incident near the Williamsburg-York County line, said Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

Jonathan Ray McDonald, of Spotsylvania, was arrested in his home on Tuesday by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office after police received information from someone who read about the shooting online, Ivey said.

McDonald is accused of shooting a man and woman in the head on June 4, resulting in both being sent to the hospital, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office news release.

McDonald is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting from a vehicle, and reckless handling of a firearm.

McDonald is currently being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. He will be transferred to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail at some point, Ivey said.

A court date has not been set for McDonald’s case yet.

Police began their investigation after occupants of a car carrying two wounded people reported the shooting around 9 p.m. to a York deputy parked at the York County Fire Station 5 on Newman Road, the release states.

Police believe the incident is connected to road-rage that began on Richmond Road close to Humelsine Parkway and culminated with the shooting by Old Mooretown Road, according to the release.

A woman, who was driving at the time of the shooting, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was flown to the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond with “possibly life-threatening injuries,” Ivey said.

The woman was still in the hospital as of Wednesday.

The second victim, a male riding in the rear passenger seat, suffered a wound to his left eyebrow and was driven to the Medical College of Virginia Hospital by York County medics, Ivey said.

A burnt orange, four-door Jeep Wrangler was reported to block the victims before the shooting, Ivey said.
