A man suffered a medical emergency while driving in Hampton Wednesday afternoon, causing him to hit a house and a parked car, a fire official said.

Hampton Fire & Rescue and police responded to the crash in the 100 block of Fox Hill Road about 3:15 p.m., Battalion Chief Craig Topping said at the scene.

It appears the medical condition caused the man to leave the road, drive his truck through a yard, clip the side of one house and hit a parked car. The car was then pushed into another house, Topping said.

Medics treated the man for his medical condition and injuries he suffered from the crash. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, Topping said.

The parked car has major damage, but damage to both houses appears to be minor, he said.

Homeowner Ed Rottkamp said fire officials told him his house appears to be stable, but suggested he call in experts to ensure there is no structural damage.

He said he was inside the house when it was hit. The entire house vibrated, and all the items on a shelf crashed to the floor.

“It was more than a crash. It was a boom,” he said.
