Williamsburg baker Alice Cooke came out on top Monday night with her pink champagne cake in the Food Network’s “Cake Wars.”
Her towering, Madeline-themed cake featured the title character nestled at the foot of an upside-down Eiffel Tower, which was supporting more layers of cake on top.
The upside-down tower was noted by the judges, Cooke also said it was her favorite element of the piece because it was such a challenge.
“Madeline was known for her mischievous behavior and there was a lot of whimsy in the books. I thought everyone else would make their Eiffel Tower standing upright,” Cooke said. “So, I decided to invert it. It was so risky, but I took a chance and it paid off.”
Cooke owns CakeAlicious, in New Town off of Casey Boulevard.
Brie Kathleen Day, a past customer of Cooke’s, posted a congratulatory message on the CakeAlicious Facebook page Tuesday.
“I knew right away you had it in the bag,” Day said. “We felt so proud watching you and your adorable upside down Eiffel Tower.”
The shop’s winnings include $10,000 and Cooke’s recipe is posted on the Food Network website. She said she’s not sure what she’ll do with the money, but will certainly spend some of it on a vacation.
The episode, entitled “Madeline,” will air again Saturday, Aug. 13.
