Newport News police are investigating after a 17-year-old boy was shot Wednesday night, an official said.
Officers and medics responded to a report of a shooting victim in the area of 18th Street and Ivy Avenue about 9 p.m., according to officer B.J. Maynard.
They found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back that is possibly life-threatening, Maynard said.
Police are not sure where the shooting occurred, and suspect information has not been released.
