James City County shopping center damaged in fire

A fire in the Colonial Town Plaza Shopping Center in James City County damaged multiple business units Saturday night, according to a news release from the county.

Firefighters from the James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department and James City County Fire Department were called to the shopping center, in the 6900 block of Richmond Road, around 9 p.m.

The firefighters found a heavy fire in the Brass Shop that was spreading to other stores, and several people were helped out of the building, the release stated.

Flames broke through the roof, causing the roof to collapse and damaging other stores in the shopping center, the release stated.

Officials said no one was hurt, and the fire marshal is investigating the blaze and searching for the cause of the fire.
