A teenage boy was seriously injured when he was shot Friday in Newport News, according to police reports.

Shortly after 10 p.m., police officers responded to the 15000 block of Warwick Boulevard for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy who’d been shot in the back, police said. Medics took the boy to a local hospital with serious injuries, but the victim is expected to survive, police spokesman Lou Thurston said in a news release.

City detectives are working to determine exactly what occurred. Witnesses tell police that a black car pulled up and shots were fired, police said.
