Rolling Stone magazine has issued a note criticizing its own handling of the story it published about a gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity house.

The managing editor of the magazine, Will Dana, published a note to readers Friday backing off the story. He said that based on new information, trust in the source was “misplaced” and there are discrepancies in her account.
