One person was hospitalized with nonfatal wounds after a shooting outside of a restaurant early Saturday morning in Williamsburg, police said.

Police responded to a call about a shooting at The Crust, a restaurant at 249 Richmond Road near the College of William and Mary, at around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, according to a news release from the Williamsburg Police Department.

Witnesses told police that two groups had been involved in a dispute inside the restaurant and that as the two groups were leaving, a man fired several shots from a handgun.

One person was hit with a round and was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News for injuries that did not appear life-threatening.

The suspect, a man somewhere between 18 and 30 years old, fled the scene on foot.
