Two people were shot in the head during a possible road-rage incident in York County on Saturday night, police say.

Occupants of a car carrying two wounded people reported the shooting around 9 p.m. to a York deputy parked at the York County Fire Station 5 on Newman Road, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office news release.

The people told police a possible road-rage incident began on Richmond Road close to Humelsine Parkway and culminated with the shooting by Old Mooretown Road, the release states.

A woman, who was driving at the time of the shooting, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was flown to the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond with “possibly life-threatening injuries,” said Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

The second victim, a male riding in the rear passenger seat, suffered a wound to his left eyebrow and was driven to the Medical College of Virginia Hospital by York County medics, Ivey said.

Police are searching for the shooter who is described as a man with a military-style haircut and tattoos who was driving a black Nissan SUV that is possibly a Murano model. A white woman was riding in the passenger seat of the SUV, the release states.

A burnt orange, four-door Jeep Wrangler was reported to block the victims before the shooting, Ivey said.
