Prepare for possible flooding during your evening commute.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory, which covers the entire Peninsula, Isle of Wight County and Southside Hampton Roads.

Meteorologists warn that driver should not attempt to enter roadways that are covered with water. The advisory also says that river or stream flows could be elevated.

“Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes,” the advisory states. “It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.”

Heavy rain is expected to continue throughout tonight and taper off during the day Thursday.

Travel with caution and prepare for potential delays.

An earlier version of this story said there were also fog notices at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and James River Bridge. Those notices have been lifted.
