The Virginia Department of Transportation will begin pre-treating Hampton Roads interstates on Thursday, ahead of the freezing weekend.
Crews started hitting the roadways about 9:30 a.m. and will continue to monitor the surface throughout the day.
The National Weather Service has predicated a 30 percent chance of snow, with little or no accumulation, for the Peninsula Friday. Temperatures will remain below freezing Friday evening through Monday.
However, parts of southern Hampton Roads could receive as much as two inches of snow.
Following January’s winter storm, VDOT has restocked on supplies, including salt, abrasives and brine.
Drivers should watch their speed and allow for plenty of braking distance if conditions become hazardous.
