A serious single-vehicle accident involving two Williamsburg residents left a woman dead and and a man seriously injured on I-64 early Sunday.

Shelby L. Pressley, a 22-year-old from Williamsburg, was driving a 2004 Toyota Sequoia east on I-64 in Richmond, about half a mile from the city line, at 4:37 a.m. Sunday, according to information from the Virginia State Police.

State Police say the car ran off the left side of the road and started to roll over after it struck the barrier wall. The car flipped off the bridge between the eastbound and westbound spans and fell for 60 feet down a ravine.

Pressley died at the scene, state police said. A passenger in the car, 33-year-old Joshua T. Abney, is also from Williamsburg. He was transported to MCV Hospital in Richmond with serious injuries.

Both were wearing seatbelts. The crash remained under investigation Tuesday.
