Schools, Bases and Museums
Gloucester County Public Schools will release early on Friday with the following schedule:
Middle Schools: 11:45 am
High School: 12:00 pm
Elementary Schools: 1 pm
All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.
Hampton City Public Schools will release Friday on the following schedule:
All High Schools and Bridgeport - 10:25 a.m.
Elementary Schools and Phenix Pre-K-8 - 11:10 a.m.
Armstrong, Andrews, Barron, Tucker-Capps, Cooper, Mary Peake, Moton, Spratley and all middle schools will dismiss between - 11:50 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Rivermont - 12:30 p.m.
Isle of Wight County Schools will dismiss early Friday, according to the division's Twitter page. High schools and middles will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and elementary at 1 p.m. No after school activities.
The Mariners Museum will close at 1 p.m.
Mathews County Schools will close at 1 p.m.
Naval Weapons Station Yorktown will go to mission essential only at 1 p.m.
Newport News Public Schools will have a half-day Friday, a schools official says. Among the cancellations Friday are after-school activities, athetic events and afternoon PEEP classes. Schools offices will close at 2 p.m.

Suffolk Public Schools will dismiss early on Friday. All afternoon and evening activities will be canceled. Middle schools will dismiss at 11:25 a.m. High schools will dismiss at 12:25 p.m. Elementary A schools will dismiss at 1:05 p.m.: Driver, Florence Bowser, Hillpoint, Kilby Shores, Mack Benn Jr. and Northern Shores. Elementary B schools will dismiss at 1:20 p.m.: Booker T. Washington, Creekside, Elephant’s Fork, Nansemond Parkway, Oakland and Pioneer.
Tidewater Community College: All campuses will close at 1 p.m.
York County School Division high schools -- except for York River Academy, which will close at noon -- will release students at 11:20 a.m. York middle schools will dismiss at noon, and elementary schools will release students at 1 p.m. Preschool classes and after-school activities have been cancelled.
Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools will release early on the following schedule:
High schools and Toano Middle School: 11 a.m.
Berkeley & Hornsby middle schools: 12 p.m.
DJ Montague, James River and Stonehouse elementary schools: 12:15 p.m.
Clara Byrd Baker, J. Blaine Blayton, Matoaka, Matthew Whaley, Rawls Byrd and Norge elementary schools: 1 p.m.
Hampton libraries and community centers will close at 4 p.m.
Great Chocolate Race: The organizers of Hampton's Great Chocolate Race have postponed Saturday's event due to the threat of extreme cold. In a statement from Crucible Racing, the company was working with Hampton Police on getting a new date set for sometime in the spring. In the meantime, runners can receive a refund or roll their registration over to the new date or another race organized by the company.
