A 27-year-old Gloucester man was arrested Wednesday night on multiple charges connected to recent robberies at businesses in York County, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office news release.
Chad Dallas Jackson, of the 5100 Block of Orchard Lane in Gloucester, is charged with four counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, four courts of grand larceny, four counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, four counts of wearing a mask in public to conceal identity, and five counts of abduction, the release states.
The charges are connected with a string of Chinese restaurant and auto parts store robberies reported within the last month, according to the sheriff’s office.
The robberies occurred on July 10 at Main Moon Chinese Restaurant, 6500 George Washington Memorial Highway; July 12 at the Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant, 4322 George Washington Memorial Highway; July 16 at Advance Auto Parts, 6500 George Washington Memorial Highway; July 25 at Auto Zone, 501 Merrimac Trail in upper York County; and Wednesday as an attempted robbery at Advance Auto Parts, 454 Merrimac Trail.
Investigators and deputies were conducting surveillance at a number of businesses that were thought to be targets of the armed robber Wednesday, including the Advance Auto Parts Store on Merrimac Trail, the release states.
Investigators reported they saw Jackson approach the store on foot just before 9 p.m. He put on a hooded jacket and pulled the hood up over his head, walked up to the door and attempted to open it, but it was locked it for the night.
They watched him walk behind the business and then back to the front. He started to walk away and removed the hooded jacket. The officers then confronted and detained him, the release states.
Jackson matched the physical description provided in all of the previous robberies, it states.
The officers found a mask and BB pistol, similar to those described by witnesses in the previous robberies, concealed in Jackson’s waistband. His vehicle was found parked nearby and unoccupied at another business on Second Street in Williamsburg.
