Local World War II veterans will be recognized at a ceremony in Yorktown Thursday morning.

The event coincides with a tribute being held in Richmond by the Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission, according to a news release.

The Richmond tribute, entitled Dawn of Infamy: American Goes to War, will be broadcast live at the Yorktown ceremony, which will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon at York Hall, 301 Main St. World War II veterans in attendance at the ceremony will be recognized during the simulcast, the release stated.

The ceremony is free and open to the public, but registration is required because seating is limited. People may register by calling 757-877-5920 or visiting yorkcountyhistoricalmuseum.com and filling out a form. Registration closes Wednesday at 3 p.m.
