Keryn Shipman

Chief Meteorologist

Keryn ShipmanChief Meteorologist Keryn Shipman holds the coveted Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society, the organization of which she is also a member.

A native of St. Louis, Ms. Shipman has established herself as a respected meteorologist, known for her straightforward approach, clear and concise maps and graphics, and in-depth reports, all delivered with great enthusiasm.

Before joining KPLR-TV, she worked as Chief Meteorologist for KDNL-TV (ABC) in St. Louis. Prior to that, she could be seen on stations in Columbus, Georgia, Dothan, Alabama, and Jonesboro, Arkansas, where she anchored and reported both news and weather.

Ms. Shipman earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications while attending the University of Alabama on a swimming scholarship. In that same sport, she is also a Missouri State record holder and High School All-American, from her days at Parkway West High School. After college, she received her Atmospheric Science Degree from Mississippi State University.

Ms. Shipman took a break from television for 3 ½ years to serve as Executive Director of the St. Louis regional office of AMC Cancer Research Center. An 8 ½ year breast cancer survivor herself, Ms. Shipman accepted that challenge to fulfill a promise she made to her dying mother. Ms. Shipman and her mother battled the disease together. Her personal quest was to do whatever she could to help prevent any others from experiencing the pain and suffering that both women endured. The job became even more personal when her father battled and succumbed to Melanoma. Losing both parents at a young age, Ms. Shipman was compelled to raise as much money as possible, to relieve the suffering of others. As Executive Director, her responsibilities included overseeing the general operation of the Regional office and its 25-member Board of Directors. She was also charged with overseeing the staff, volunteers, all fundraising and the budgets for the office and events. In the short time she was at the helm, the regional division amazingly raised more than 1 ½ million dollars! By the end of 2006, the St. Louis office merged with the University of Colorado Cancer Center, and the decision was made to have all fundraising come out of the AMC headquarters in Denver, Colorado, closing the St. Louis office. While she pledges to continue her volunteer work for cancer research, she is thrilled to be back in television.

Ms. Shipman's professional honors include Emmy and Associated Press Awards and she was named the American Cancer Society Media Volunteer of the Year.

You can watch Keryn Shipman on CW 11 News weeknights at 9pm.
