“The Chicago Conspiracy Trial and the Press” by Nick Sharman will be published by Palgrave Macmillan in June. Sharman analyzes newspaper coverage of the Chicago Seven — Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines and Lee Weiner — who were charged with conspiracy and inciting riot following protests during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The book also covers the trial of Bobby Seale, the eighth person charged, which was severed from the rest of the group.

“Wounded City: Violent Turf Wars in a Chicago Barrio” by Robert Vargas was published by Oxford University Press earlier this month. Vargas investigates gang violence in Little Village, exploring how competition for political power and resources often undermines efforts to reduce violence. Vargas is a graduate of DePaul University and Northwestern University.
“Kevin Kramer Starts on Monday” by Debbie Graber was published by The Unnamed Press May 17. The short story collection offers a satirical look at the lives of office workers in corporate America who lack self-awareness. Graber is a native of Glenview and Evanston.
“Start Here: Master the Lifelong Habit of Wellbeing” by Eric Langshur and Nate Klemp was published by North Star Way earlier this month. Langshur and Klemp offer tips to becoming less stressed and more focused by using mental exercises. Langshur and Klemp are cofounders of Chicago-based LIFE XT. Langshur lives in Chicago.
“Raven in the Snow: A Haiku Treasury” by kimmi ann was recently self-published. The book is a collection of ann’s haiku poetry that covers the death of her brother, living in a remote Alaskan village and motherhood. The author grew up in Northlake, Schaumburg and Hinsdale.
