Memorial Day events

Hampton

•There will be a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at Hampton National Cemetery (Cemetery Road at Marshall Avenue in Hampton).

Newport News

•American Legion Braxton-Perkins Post 25 will sponsor its annual ceremony at the Victory Arch in downtown Newport News. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Monday. Attendees can receive $1 off regular admission to the Virginia War Museum.

•The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band (TRADOC) will perform a free concert in City Center. Gates open at 5 p.m. Monday, and the band begins at 7:30 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket and lawn chair.

Smithfield

•The annual Memorial Day commemoration will take place at the corner of North Church Street and Luter Drive in downtown Smithfield beginning 11 a.m. Monday.

Williamsburg

•Colonial Williamsburg and the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution will host a ceremony beginning 9:45 a.m. Monday on the Palace Green along Duke of Gloucester Street and at Bruton Parish Church. Williamsburg Fifes and Drums and military programs will perform. Free and open to the public.

•At 2 p.m. Monday, the U. S. Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band will perform a free concert in Colonial Williamsburg's Merchants Square.

•Through the weekend, Colonial Williamsburg will offer free admission to active duty military, reservists, retirees, veterans, National Guard members and their immediate dependents.

York County

•The annual Memorial Day ceremony begins noon Monday in front of York Hall at 301 Main St. in Yorktown. The Fifes and Drums of York Town will perform at 11:45 a.m. in the same location. The program includes a wreath laying and the playing of "Taps." For more information, call York County Parks, Recreation and Tourism at 757-890-3500.

•Historic Grace Episcopal Church, 111 Church St., will host a ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday that will include prayers, remarks and placement of flags on the graves of veterans buried in the cemetery.

•The Yorktown Rotary Club hosts its annual Yorktown Freedom Run 8K/5K Fun Run on Yorktown Battlefield. The 8K starts at 8 a.m., and the 5K will start at 8:15 a.m. Monday. Registration is only available on race day in the York High School Cafeteria from 6:30-7:40. All proceeds will go back to the Yorktown Rotary Foundation to fund Youth Activities and scholarships.
