In what is increasingly becoming a season of firsts for Warhill High's baseball team, the Lions can accomplish a very big one with a win in the Region I tournament semifinals today at Southampton (4:30 p.m. first pitch): a first ever state tournament berth by a boys athletic team at the school.

The girls basketball team reached the Group AA Division 3 state tournament in 2010 and the girls soccer team reached the AA state tourney in 2011 (not sure if girls cross country has made it, to be honest). But no Warhill boys athletic team has made it to a state tournament.

Another benefit from a win today would be that Warhill will host the Culpeper-Greensville County winner in the regional championship game on Friday. In addition this season, the Lions have won become the first team in school history to repeat as district champs, won the baseball program's first district tournament, as well as hosted and won a regional game for the first time in program history.
