New Zoes Kitchen in Williamsburg giving away 500 meals and chance to win free food for a year | Daily Press

Zoës Kitchen, which features a menu of Mediterranean-inspired dishes, will open July 31 in the Settler’s Market retail area in Williamsburg.

To celebrate its opening, the casual restaurant chain is giving away 500 meals, a chance to win the opportunity to eat free for a year at the new location, and free gifts via its mobile app,  according to a news release from the company.

The Plano, Texas-based chain serves foods that are “predominantly preservative and additive free,” according to the company release. Signature dishes include salads, chicken kabobs, chicken roll-ups and hummus.

The free food contest runs from Thursday, July 17, through Thursday, July 31. Visit the Zoës Kitchen’s Facebook page at to enter. Customers can also download the Zoës L.I.F.E. mobile app to receive free gifts and order online.

On Saturday, July 19, Menchie’s yogurt shop in Newport News will celebrate its grand opening  by handing out a free cup of frozen yogurt. Hours for the giveaway are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt is in Jefferson Commons Central at 12551 Jefferson Ave., Suite 205, Newport News.

The shop's regular hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

And 7-Eleven continues its birthday celebration of free snack foods with a different item each day. Wednesday, July 16, get a free Twix or Snickers ice cream bar. On Thursday, July 17, claim a free Quaker Chewy Yogurt Snack Bar. On Friday, get a free package of Pillsbury cookies. And on Saturday, before or after getting that free frozen yogurt at Menchie's, get a free small Slurpee from 7-Eleven.
