A Williamsburg company will be in charge of making improvements to the intersection of Route 199 at Brookwood Drive, with construction to begin in early March.
Henry S. Branscome, LLC received the $358,000 construction contract to improve safety, increase capacity and fix traffic congestion during peak traffic times by widening Brookwood Drive and adjust the median on Route 199, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation news release. The company will also replace signal heads and make drainage improvements, VDOT said.

- add a new right-turn lane on Brookwood Drive onto Route 199 east.Once completed, the new lane configuration on Brookwood Drive will consist of one dedicated left-turn lane, one left-turn/through lane and one dedicated right-turn lane onto Route 199.
Once finished, Brookwood Drive will have one dedicated left-turn lane onto Route 199, one left-turn/through lane and one dedicated right-turn lane onto Route 199, VDOT said.
Drivers can expect single-lane closures on Route 199 overnight Sunday through Friday beginning the week of March 5, along with day and nighttime lane closures as needed on Brookwood Drive, according to VDOT.
The project is expected to be finished by mid-summer, VDOT said.
