JAMES CITY - An electrical issue shut down Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens for almost an hour Thursday afternoon, according to a statement from the theme park.

The roller coaster, located in the Italy section of the theme park, was shut down around 3:45 p.m. and was out of service for about 45 minutes, spokesman Kevin Crossett said. He said riders were escorted off the coaster by park officials while maintenance was conducted to address "a minor electrical issue."

Crossett declined to comment on whether the coaster became stuck on the track as a result of the shut down. He noted that no one was injured during the incident.

"The safety of guests and team members is Busch Gardens’ number one priority," Crossett said. "All ride attractions are inspected daily by trained technicians to ensure they are operating properly."

He explained a shut down is an indication that ride safety systems are working properly.
