“Service sells cars,” says Art Hudgins, president of Holiday Chevrolet Cadillac in Williamsburg. Readers of the Virginia Gazette voted the car dealership the Best New Car Dealer and Best Used Car Dealer in Williamsburg.
Holiday Chevrolet Cadillac opened in its current location 35 years ago, but Hudgins worked with his father at Hudgins Oldsmobile, Pontiac, GMC in Gloucester since 1971. The company remains a family affair with son, Michael as the Vice President and daughter, Aris Hudgins as Marketing Director.
“We could not keep the Hudgins name when we moved to Williamsburg so GMC came up with the name of Holiday because Williamsburg is a holiday place,” Hudgins said.
“We’ve grown with the community,” he added.
Hudgins is big on exceeding customer expectations in all areas of the dealership, but his focus is the service department which has tripled in size since opening.
“We put a lot of emphasis on service,” he said, including the little details such as driving a customer’s car around to the front so they don’t have to search for it in the vast parking lot.
“We do the teeny things that mean a lot to our customers.”
His company also listens to the customer. “We do a lot of business on what customers told us they want,” he said, including extended service hours.
Holiday is also a good place to work with staff members staying for an average of 20 years, and most leave when they retire, Hudgins said.
With all the technological changes to new vehicles, service technicians also train rigorously. “They have to train all the time,” Hudgins said.
“Our repeat business is very strong,” Hudgins said. People continue to bring vehicles to the service department even after the warranty expires.
“Service is the key to success of the dealer,” he said.
