There will be a wide range of employment opportunities at the 2017 Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance career fair.

"The career fair has been around for a number of years. I won't say a number but it's been a lengthy amount of time," said Michelle Williams, director of business events at the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance. "We do it as a community service for folks that are in need of job."

The career fair is free and open to the public.

Williams said 27 companies will be recruiting and nine businesses will attend, concentrating on workplace development and furthering education.

Williams said about 250 people attended last year's fair and she is expecting a similar turnout.

Thomas Nelson Community College and Bluefield College will be on hand as well as a variety of companies including Great Wolf Lodge, Chesapeake Bank, Colonial Williamsburg, DoubleTree and Williamsburg Landing.

Companies are looking to hire everything from full-time to part-time to seasonal employees, Williams said.

"We like to be aware of what's going on in the community and we're trying to find the best candidates that are out there so we definitely want to look in our backyard first," said Wendy Stephens, director of human resources at Great Wolf Lodge.

Stephens said ideally Great Wolf Lodge would hire 25 people in their housekeeping, public area, retail and cook divisions.

"We have a lot of different jobs available," Stephens said.

Thomas Nelson Community College will also provide computers on site for candidates to use to apply online.

Gary Plaag, president of Couragio Consulting, will be the featured speaker at the career fair. Couragio Consulting provides personal and professional development and communication coaching services.

"Each year we try to improve the fair," Williams said. "We try to add one aspect that's not only beneficial to the vendors but also to the employment candidates. We want to make it worthwhile."
