The American Red Cross is hoping donors will turn out in numbers for the annual Williamsburg Community Blood Drive scheduled 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Fort Magruder Hotel & Conference Center.

According to Kristen Hatfield, communications manager for the American Red Cross in Norfolk, the organization has an "urgent need" for blood.

"Right now, blood products are being distributed to hospitals as quickly as donations are coming in," Hatfield said.

Like a hospital emergency room, the Red Cross needs to be prepared to respond to patient emergencies every day.The Red Cross needs all types of blood, but especially Type O-negative, B-negative, and A-negative.

Walk-ins for the event are welcome. Appointments can be made at http://rdcrss.org/1nSCRIq. Those who donate will be registered to win gift cards from local restaurants and businesses.
