The case against a man arrested in connection with an August shooting incident at The Crust Cafe was continued Tuesday in Williamsburg-James City County General District Court.
John Lee Johnson, 22 of Williamsburg, is charged with shooting with intent to maim or kill, aggravated malicious wounding, three counts use of a firearm in commission of a felony and two counts shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to Williamsburg-James City County General District Court documents. Johnson's next hearing is Oct. 18.
Police responded to reports of a shooting around 12:45 a.m. on Aug. 27 at The Crust, located at 249 Richmond Road in Williamsburg. Officers found one vicitim who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The victim had been working as security for a special event, according to Greg Riley, Williamsburg Police Department spokesman.
Witnesses reported to police the shooting resulted from a confrontation between two feuding gangs before the incident. The man who fired a handgun was aiming in the direction of rival gang members, according to court documents.
In recent weeks, several more men suspected of involvement in the incident have been arrested.
Jamel John Young Jr., 23, Dominique Lamar Wallace, 23, Kajoun Devante Johnson, 22, Travis David-Mark Campbell, 26, and Eric Ronald Anthony James, 24 were arrested and charged with gang participation and maiming by mob in connection with the incident, Riley said.
All are James City County residents, except Wallace, who lives in Williamsburg.
Malik Cory Brown, 28, of James City County, was arrested and charged with gang participation. Warrants were obtained on Sept. 19, Riley said.
Riley couldn’t confirm the gangs involved or specific affiliations of people arrested. The other suspects were implicated as being involved in the shooting incident during the investigation but Riley declined to elaborate on what that involvement consisted of.
