William & Mary reports student suicide

WILLIAMSBURG – The William and Mary community is grieving the loss of a student who died from an apparent suicide on campus, college officials said Monday.

The student, 21-year-old Peter Godshall, from Chadds Ford, Pa., was found near the Crim Dell Bridge, according to an email to the campus community from Ginger Ambler, vice president for student affairs.

"Peter's friends remember him as a person who was recognized by everyone on campus, and who was valued and loved by all who knew him," Ambler wrote.

According to Ambler, Godshall was a senior majoring in history and finance. He was an officer in Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and also played club lacrosse, serving as that club's president last semester.

Godshall’s death is the second student death reported by the college leading up to the start of the 2014-15 academic year. Earlier this month, W&M reported that Steven Tran, also a rising senior, died Aug. 4 at his home in Lincoln, Neb. His cause of death was not released.
