City Council unanimously approved a request to build apartments on High Street at its meeting on Thursday afternoon.

The proposed complex includes 96 apartments in eight separate buildings. The eight apartment buildings total 105,010 square feet and contain 64 one bedroom units and 32 two bedroom units.

Council originally approved the space for townhouses but the applicant, Steve Middleton, representing HS Apt. Land LC, asked to reconfigure the lots into luxury apartments.

The apartments would sit next to Sterling Manor off of Treyburn Drive and Middle Street.

City principal planner Erin Burke said the applicant hasn’t provided a date of construction yet.

Jefferson can be reached by phone at 757-790-9313.
