Advance Vision Surgery Center hosts Day of Caring

Advance Vision Surgery Center hosted the second part of its Day of Caring event on Saturday.

Patients received free laser-assisted cataract surgery and advanced technology lenses to help decrease their dependence on glasses following surgery, as part of the community service event.

“This is wonderful. I’ve been wearing glasses for 52 years,” said resident Dorene Huff, as she pointed to the distance. “It’s so wonderful I can see all the way over there now.”

Huff had her left cataract worked on Saturday.

Angela Weeks, vision education specialist at Advanced Vision Surgery Center, said 11 patients underwent eye surgery on Saturday. Weeks said about 20 people volunteered in order to make the event possible.

The surgery center also hosted a Day of Caring event on Dec. 2.

Weeks said 10 people participated in the Dec. 2 day.

“We wished we could help more patients,” Weeks said.

Advance Vision Surgery Center is located at 5215 Monticello Ave.
