Ownby has right skills for school board

I encourage voters in the Powhatan District to invest in education by electing Lisa Ownby to the WJCC School Board on Nov. 8.

Lisa understands the current issues facing our public schools, having lived in the community for 25 years. She is a passionate advocate for education and has been fully engaged at multiple levels as a parent of four children. Her oldest recently graduated Lafayette High School and she now has children in high, middle and elementary school.

In addition to her work on advisory committees, the PTA, and the Athletic Boosters, she is an educator and a social worker. She has worked across the public, private and non-profit sectors bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in all areas of budgeting, facilities, curriculum and policy.

Lisa also has strong fiscal management skills. She is Director of Operations for a local civil engineering firm, managing their gross receipts of $2 million and reviewing their profit and loss statements, adjusting as needed to ensure the business remains profitable. These kinds of skills are the right combination to bring to the important work of the school board, as well as her skills in proposal development, contract review and negotiation, and human resources.

Lisa Ownby has made it clear that she believes in equity across the system, as well as ensuring the success of all students. She would be a great addition to our current school board.
