JAMES CITY – Paula Huffman, who is in her fourth year as principal at J. Blaine Blayton Elementary, is departing Williamsburg-James City Schools for a position in Loudoun County Schools.
According to a Nov. 13 report on LeesburgToday.com, Huffman will take over as principal at Frederick Douglass Elementary School beginning Dec. 1.
Huffman has worked in education for 24 years. WJC Schools spokeswoman Betsy Overkamp-Smith said Friday that the School Board will vote on her resignation during Tuesday's School Board meeting.
Her departure will mark the eighth change in principal leadership in WJC Schools this year. The Gazette previously reported that seven schools, including two middle schools and five elementary schools, would have new principals this year, either newly hired from outside the division or shifted from school to school within WJC.
According to a job posting on the WJC Schools website, the starting salary for an elementary principal is $69,576 and the midpoint salary level is $90,459. Elementary principals work on a 12-month, 260-day contract.
