The Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to hire an executive search firm out of Florida to find the next county administrator, at a cost of $25,000.
The county will retain Colin Baenziger & Associates, based in Daytona Beach, for the search.
On a unanimous vote, the supervisors decided to route $25,000 from the contingency fund. They had met earlier in the day in closed session to consider competing firms.
Colin Baenziger & Associates was founded in 1997 and has since expanded into 13 states, according to its website. In Virginia, it has conducted searches for a city manager in Roanoke and for an economic development director in Loudon County.
The county has been without a county administrator since November, when Robert Middaugh was fired by a majority of supervisors without explanation.
In January, the supervisors appointed Assistant County Administrator Doug Powell as interim.
