Pictures: Kidsburg reopens at James City's Mid-County Park
More than 200 people, most of them children, swarmed the grand re-opening of Mid County Park and the new Kidsburg Thursday morning. After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, the new park office, restrooms and Kidsburg were available for informal tours and play. The capstone of the $852,000 project is the 30,000-square-foot playground that retained Kidsburg’s theme through a new pirate ship while expanding with a swing area and a separate play area for children 5 and younger. As far as the design, Jamestown Supervisor Jim Icenhour explained, “Some of the best input we got was from the children who came to the meetings.” They were unequivocal in what they wanted to see in a new playground, he said.
