A green outdoor light to honor veterans. Our True Value had green bulbs on sale for Veterans Day, and I noticed several neighbors had put them on their porch lights. Now I have mine on, also. Just wanted to share this information, a nice gesture.
School bus safety
Regarding school bus seatbelts: Maybe the Tennessee school bus crash that was horrific will be a wake-up call for everyone nationwide to demand seatbelts in school buses.
To the person chastising the ABC store for encouraging the purchase of alcohol: First, it is a business, so selling as much as they can is their number one priority. Secondly, are you not engaging in the purchase of alcohol? If you wish the Commonwealth to revert back to the prohibition era, refrain from buying alcohol. Otherwise, quietly, allow the rest of us to enjoy our 21st Amendment right.
In regards to the caller about the alcohol being in the eggnog at the ABC store: First of all, it is an ABC store where they sell alcohol. Secondly, I would ask her to read the label before she purchases a product from the ABC store to make sure that it doesn't have alcohol. Thank you.
To the person who was concerned about the Va ABC store offer a discount on alcohol on Black Friday encouraging increased consumption, you can relax. Our daughter who lives up in New Hampshire where they also must buy their alcohol at a state run store regularly pays up to one third less compared to our prices in VA. We are discouraged every time we enter the store!

Does anyone know if there are any Williamsburg church groups or services on week days for persons that work long hours on weekends and can't get to church?
Still missing: Pearl, white German shepherd. Last seen at Jolly Pond and Centerville roads. Missing from Ford's Colony since last Monday. If you see her, please don't approach. Very scared and skittish. Just call the owners at 259-1155 or 757-325-5074. Thank you.
Does anyone know of a good accountant in the area who can help me with my small business tax returns? If you know of someone who is fairly priced and cares to spend a bit of time to advise on all possible deductions, I'd appreciate the recommendation. Thank you.
Can anyone recommend a cleaner who could remove ball point ink from a caramel colored leather coat?
Road hazards – I think the speed limit signs on Greensprings Road, driving from Jamestown Road toward John Tyler, are wrong! They have you going 35 where the road is straight and 45 where the road is curved. There have been a number of accidents on this stretch—perhaps that's one reason. Any chance the rocky road intersection on Casey Blvd. heading to Discovery Park will be removed? I drive out of the way to avoid it. Thank you.
To the person who asked about the "Relevant" banner next to Ascension of Our Lord's sign: There is another church called the Relevant Church that meets in the strip mall across the street from Ascension, and they sometimes put their banner next to Ascension's sign.
I recently had the misfortune to experience a flat tire while driving on Rt. 199 near Monticello Ave. and had to pull off the road. Many cars just whizzed by me until one kind soul stopped and offered his assistance. I want to send my thanks and appreciation to him for his offer of help. His stopping and offering assistance certainly shows that chivalry still exists in some part of our society and for that effort on my "gallant" friend's part, I am very grateful.
The tattered American flag in front of the Sears outlet in Lightfoot needs to be respectfully retired and replaced.
My husband and I have done our own windows for years, but it's getting to be difficult in our seventies. We are so thrilled with the team at Jamestown Window Cleaning. A wonderful crew of four people did a miraculous job in just two hours, of cleaning every window (including old fashioned storm windows) in our house, leaving barely a trace of debris behind. I smile every time I look at my clean windows, and wonder what took me so long to call them! Contact info is 757-753-3482 (Radu). A brief video is available online – just entire Jamestown Window Cleaning. Radu also provides free estimates; the cost is very reasonable.
Saving money this season makes sense. When buying propane gas for my grill, I discovered I only need to pay for what I need. Karen at Revere Gas on Merrimac Trail explained the advantage of bringing in your tank for a fill up rather than paying $20 for a "box store" tank. I only needed $13 worth of gas and saved myself $7. Karen understands customer service and saving customers money. Thank you, Karen.
Reference "Mail delivery." I was so sorry that you're getting your mail at 10 p.m. Go out in the morning, and you'll be so thrilled that your mail is there when the sun comes up. Thanks, mailman!
Law and order
In regard to the recent police shooting: I guess our useless Justice Department, with Loretta Lynch at its head, will continue to do nothing until she is finally out of office. Why is it that the Democrats were surprised when Trump won the Presidency as the "Law and Order" candidate, as that's exactly what's needed in this country?
In response to the health insurance with the individual diagnosed with cancer: Well, I pray and hope the best for you. But as far as a right to health care—in reality in the United States, in the Constitution, or in other documents—it doesn't state you have a right to health care. Matter of fact, we don't have a right to food, don't have a right to a job, we don't have a right to housing, clothing, or any other essential needs. There's really no right for any of these that we have. You have a right to pursue happiness. You have a right, which you may or may not achieve. You have a right to free speech. You have a right to remain silent. Rights don't come at other people's expense and costs, and so rights are very limited. Read up on it—if you have a right to pursue any of these things.
Just want to thank you for letting me know the six states that have Democratic governors and Democratic legislatures. I will consider it as a warning to never to move to any of those states.
To those who said that without the Electoral College, we would leave it up to California and a few other large states to decide our elections: you could not be more wrong. The smallest state of Wyoming had 245,994 votes cast for President. If you divide that by their three electoral votes, each represents the wishes of 81,998 citizens. The largest state of California had 11,681,766 votes cast. With their 55 electoral votes, each represents the wishes of 212,395 citizens. Wyoming has almost three times the power of California. The statistics for other large states (Texas, Florida, and New York) and small states (Vermont and Alaska) are strikingly similar, with voters in Florida having the least power: each vote representing 322,802 citizens.
Montana, Alaska, North and South Dakota have less than 2 million people and get 12 electoral votes, canceling Virginia's 12 votes with 12 million residents.
To all of those protesters who never paid attention in civics class: Yes, there is an Electoral College and yes, they do decide who becomes president. And if you had paid attention to the third party candidates such as the Green Party, they have consistently supported the abolition of the Electoral College in favor of the direct election of the candidate on their platform (along with many other good ideas). You have nobody to blame but yourselves for this. GO home; it's OVER. Next time (if there is a next time), don't allow the media with their support of the two-party dictatorship to dominate your opinions. Vote for somebody who actually cares about you and the country. Hint: That would not be the Democrats or the Republicans.
In regards to the person's nasty, mean, vicious comment about Melania Trump: The Secret Service name for her should be "Excellent Mother." Did you see Baron? What an excellent, well behaved young man! She's an excellent mother. When she's been married for 15 years and they have that wonderful child and she stayed home through the whole campaign, made sure her son was going to school and doing the right thing—and that's what you say about her? I just thought—I won't even tell you what I thought. It wasn't "Go to Heaven," that's for sure!
Donald Trump had better grow some calluses on his very delicate skin because now that he is a very public figure he will be the target of just about everyone each time he opens his mouth.
Fast-fingered Donald is at again. He tweeted that he saved Ford jobs in Kentucky while the legitimate press reported Ford is moving small car manufacturing to Mexico to 1) have better access to world markets and 2) free up manufacturing capacity in Michigan to make the larger, more expensive Ford cars Americans love. There was never any plan by Ford to move the Lincoln Navigator out of their plant in Kentucky. Would an adult please take his phone away from him.
To the person who stated one of his reasons for moving to Canada because Trump will be his President, is that "Canada has a much cooler national anthem"—I suggest you don't wait until Jan. 20 and leave now. Also, please take along all those who continue to protest with you.
Donald Trump is a cheat (Trump University), a predator (groping women) and a racist (statements about Muslims and Mexicans). As an American, I am embarrassed that he will be THE President (not my President). God help us.
I don't recall President Obama settling a fraud and racketeering case after ripping off thousands of people, some of their entire life's savings. Don the con will never be my president.
The cast of Hamilton and the audience that booed Vice President-elect Pence were just plain being disrespectful, as Pence did nothing to deserve such treatment. Once again, it only goes to prove who are the real Hillary so-called "deplorables," they are the liberal Democrats.
It is interesting, and not ironic, that the Hamilton performer, who voiced the words to Mike Pence, was the one who plays the character of the dishonored New York politician and former Vice President, the likely treasonous killer, Aaron Burr.
Did you ever notice just how quick some people are to label another a racist? Maybe they never heard of the saying, "It takes one to know one." I suggest they take a good look in the mirror.
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." George Santayana. With the election of Donald Trump, we are beginning to see the rise of what smells a lot like the National Socialists in the 1930's and those of us who have studied history can recall how that ended. Be very afraid.
So now Trump admits he violated IRS laws by taking money from his foundation to buy things for himself. He needs to forget about jailing Hillary and look out for himself. Plus he still has sexual assault suits against him. He was able to buy his way out of the Trump University suit. It would be embarrassing to have a president who takes time off to go to court.
