Last Word on weekday church services, Dec. 3

Weekday services

I'm calling to respond to the person looking for a church that has services on weekdays. Williamsburg United Methodist Church on Jamestown Road has every second Tuesday a free dinner and church and activities for children and every Wednesday, from 5:30 to 6:30, there's a dinner followed by activities and a senior pastor's Bible study at 7 p.m. There is a charge for the dinner. That's Williamsburg United Methodist Church on Jamestown Road.

Reply to the person asking if a church in our area has services during the week: The First Church of Christ, Scientist, at 620 Jamestown Road, meets every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. for a testimony meeting. This is a very friendly church where you will be most welcome.

Looking for...

A gold Movado woman's watch was lost in Kingsmill Sunday evening near the Busch shuttle pickup point (and possibly on the shuttle). Reward offered for its return. Call 258-1578.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a tree up anywhere for "Be Santa to a senior?" Walmart usually has one by now. Its like the Salvation Army Angel Tree except for senior citizens.

I have some Beanie Babies for Sidecar Santa but have no contact number for him. Editor's note: Sidecar Santa asks that you contact him at sidecarsanta@hotmail.com.

I am looking for a good hair stylist without spending a fortune on a hair cut. Any recommendations for stylist names, and salon name. Thank you.

Yes, could somebody please help my daughter and me for Christmas? If you can, can you give me a call at 757-566-1718? I'd really appreciate it.

Did anybody find a pair of sunglasses in the Dollar Tree at the Monticello Shopping Center? I just had eye surgery and I need these glasses. If you found them, would you please contact the Last Word so I can get them back? Thank you.

Well handled

The day before Thanksgiving in Panera Bread, a man verbally abused the workers who accidentally cleared his table while he was in the bathroom. He called them stupid idiots and made a scene. Kudos to the young man with running shorts on who had the courage and dignity to address the man and say he was inappropriate and immature for calling the good workers there names and yelling at them. He told the man he was acting like a ten year old. The man then said, "Well, let's see how a ten year old fights. Let's go outside." The young man kept his cool and did not rise to the man's baitings. I wish the two women who joined this bully later knew how rudely he acted towards the young man and workers in Panera.

Praise for deer

I'm talking about the deer. Last week they said the deer population is growing. I think deer are the most beautiful animals. They don't fight, they do not do anything but eat some of our plants. Do not try to destroy or kill the deer. Thank you. I'm so concerned about the deer—it's not funny.

Doing good

Warhill Wrestling is hosting a toy drive for Colonial CASA and every toy we collect will stay right here in Williamsburg to brighten the holidays for a local child. Colonial CASA serves kids that are in the court system for abuse and neglect. Donations of new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the front office of Warhill High School or you can call 645-4255 and we will come and pick them up. Through Fri, Dec. 16.

I would thank to thank Thumper Newman for his kindness and dedication. I have witnessed his faithful deliveries with A Gift from Ben and I know lots of people are thankful for him. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Mr. Newman, from a thankful community.

Modern politics

I would like to comment on modern politics. We should have less school-yard politics coming up to the top of our system and more mature people with better ideas on how to fix the world's problems. And that the American people are allowing themselves to be governed too much by their motives and too little by their logic in the matters of politics. Therefore, they're getting bad politicians. Thank you.

Thank you

Pearl, our beloved German shepherd, was hit by a car on Centerville Road on a recent Thursday evening. We would like to thank everyone who tried to help. We are very grateful for all your kindness. Thank you.

Christmas music

This past Wednesday, I went to visit my mother who is a patient in a local nursing home. Shortly after I arrived, one of the staff came to ask us to attend a concert which was being presented for the patients in the main room. My mom has always loved music, especially Christmas Music, so we took a place in the audience without realizing the fantastic program we were about to witness. Robert Hodge, used the piano and his voice to entertain us us for an hour and I have never seen this group of elderly people so engaged by anyone. His ability to make these people respond was magical! I had never seen this young man perform so I asked him about his work. Apparently, there is a concert on December 15th at the Kimball Theatre. I for one will be looking forward to supporting this great artist who showed my mother and me that he cares about the people in life who really need his music.

Mail delivery

I live in Queens Lake, and our mail is not getting here until 9 at night. I just saw in the Last Word that Kingsmill is not getting their mail until 10. I called the post office and it was said that the mail was coming late from Richmond, but something needs to be done. This has been going on for weeks now, and undoubtedly all of the neighborhoods are getting it late, possibly because of Richmond. I don't know who else to contact to get something done about this.

Trump family

So disappointed you printed the comment on Barron Trump. Please, can't we agree to leave this child out of all public discourse about the new first family? Simply not fair to a 10-year-old child. Editor's note: The comment you refer to was replying to a post about Melania Trump, but your point is well taken and we will continue with the guidelines used with previous first family children.

Cheers

A very good cheer to the young fella while I was at a skate board shop on Black Friday at Premium Outlet. Your advice was great on telling me how to hang my skate board picture of wolves howling. Don't short change yourself. Thumbs up to you and peace.

My family hosted several William and Mary students this week. These students continue to amaze us with their commitment to leadership and service. We are so blessed to have the university in our home town. Cheers to our great students!

Missing myrtles

I live in Ford's Colony and am looking for answers why the beautiful crepe myrtles have been cut down near and inside the Williamsburg West entrance gate. Such a shame! They were beautiful and majestic trees. I have called numerous people and they, too, are shocked that these flowering trees are being cut down. No answers on why. Please stop this destruction of our beautiful trees. They are stately and one of the reasons we moved to this area. Thank you.

Different concerns

Meanwhile, residents in Greensprings Plantation are arguing over the color of numbers the HOA wants to put on mailboxes. Good grief!

A fantastic store has come to Williamsburg. It's called "Aldi." I've never been in one before; I knew nothing about it. I know that there are people that came from D.C. who might know about it, but I had never been in one. Unbelievable! It's off Richmond Road, and the products are fantastic. If it's not a name brand that you know, give it a chance. They're fantastic, and the prices are great. Thank you.

I highly recommend Red's Tree Service. Mike does a marvelous job of not only taking down the tree, removing the stump but cleaning the entire yard so you'd never know that anything happened. Anyone needing anything done to tree topping, removal of stump, stump grinding: Call Mike at 757-592-3130. And he gives senior discounts. He's right there, and he does a marvelous job. I couldn't be happier.

I've been to many vets over the years. Dr. Kronlein from Colonial Vet is the best vet in town. He's wonderful, smart and kind. Tammy and Kelly, the office staff—the Colonial Vet's office staff—are wonderful, too. They do a wonderful job.

President-elect

It's funny Mr. Trump says he's draining the swamp, but the people he is appointing new positions to are swampier than the present people currently in those jobs.

I find it humorous, in a distressing way, that the same people who spent the last eight years vilifying President Barack Obama get so upset when someone makes a humorous little joke about the incoming president and his wife.

The recount

In a British news interview, a Democratic strategist who worked for Hillary Clinton was asked, "Why is Stein asking for a recount? She doesn't have a prayer of being the next president of the United States." The answer was, "Well, Stein knows she isn't going to be the next president, but Hillary met with Stein and asked Stein to ask for the recount because Hillary legally conceded." That way, she can open up the vote. Technically, Hillary's not the one doing it, even though she requested it, but legally, Stein is asking for the recount, knowing she'll get nothing out of it except a fund raiser. Hillary then can try to tie up the Electoral College in the early part of December—I think it's the 9th.

The election

For all you liberal Democrats who are bemoaning the fact that Hillary lost: A major reason she lost is because of her choice for vice president, Tim Kaine. I was at the VMI graduation this past weekend when our grandson was commissioned and Kaine was the commencement speaker. He was terrible; it was embarrassing. I was in uniform as a retired Air Force colonel, and we had people in front of us turn around and say, first, "Thank you for your service," and second, even though they were life-long Democrats, "That speech that Kaine just made was terrible and we apologize." So, it just wasn't the fact that Hillary was not trusted by the majority of the population, but her VP pick was disgraceful. Any time you go 0 for 2, you aren't going to win. Thank you.

Now that the election is over for president, it would be greatly appreciated by a lot of your neighbors if you would take down your yard signs. They really aren't that appealing, so please be aware that the election is now over. Thank you.

The last time a person who had received a minority number of votes and was appointed President of the United States, he put us into a war, which was uncalled for. We are still paying a price for this war with the lives of our children, and he never raised the funds to pay for this war. We have not the funds today to attend to the needs of America. It is more than frightening to think that this new, minority-voted president seems to think he can use the nuclear bomb as his choice. This makes two major heads of state -- ours and Russia — who put the world in great peril of self destruction.

To all the people who keep saying that the liberals are whining and the collage kids are just spoiled because they are not accepting the election results of Trump being the president-elect. The thing that the Trump supporters don't understand is that nothing about this election was normal. Had a normal republican won rather than the democrat then ok, that is fine. We can try again next time. But Trump ran a campaign on lies and hate and therefore has validated that behavior in the people around the country. And we were warned by people around the country and around the world that this man is not a good choice. Besides the fact that he has no experience in governing, he has now hired many who also have no government experience. And many of them have very sketchy pasts, at best. Also most of these Trump voters never really accepted President Obama as their president yet they want everyone to just accept Trump. With the behavior he has shown not only throughout the campaign but also throughout his public life, he does not have my respect and he is not someone I would ever want young children to look up to. So the divide will continue and Trump is not capable of fixing it.
