Root of the problem?
With recent shooting, I question if these are related to a large number of people unemployed or underemployed. I read that our unemployment rate now is what it was when Jimmy Carter was president and our country was in a recession then. There are at least four or five adults on my street who no longer work as they cannot find permanent, full-time jobs. Is the anger in our country from so many people hurting financially? Why doesn't the media report this?
A great partnership
The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) created at William and Mary and supported by the Williamsburg Community Foundation, recently sponsored their first ever "Art of Drawing and Visualization" seminar. Held July 9 and 10 at the James City County Recreation Center, over a dozen veterans, whose service ranged from WWII, to the Vietnam era, to Iraq and Afghanistan, honed their drawing, composition and visual art skills under the leadership of artist, Ms. Jenny Loveland, also a veteran. Thanks, ASAP, for another great offering! To learn more about ASAP opportunities and how you can support, please log on to asapasap.org.
Too much blacktop
Since the South is the Bible belt, one could assume that our elected and appointed officials are good religious people acting in the best interests of the populace. Cutting down trees and planting blacktop is sacrilegious. Trees provide cooling shade and solace. Black top creates heat, the fumes given off are carcinogenic, and the sealant hurts the soil and critters below it. Why are there so few trees in the parking lots, and usually only over the handicapped spots? Folks who worry about their car paint can park in the sun, but please plant rows of trees all over the parking lots and don't pave with blacktop for the rest of us. If our good Bible belt folks want to live their religion, then start in the parking lots.
Fortunately, up to this point, the NRA has failed at getting federal law to supersede state law on guns. If it were up to the NRA, we’d all be required by law to openly carry an AK47 or an AR15.

I just saw something very disturbing. Jesse Jackson was on television a few moments ago, indicating that Donald Trump was a racist. And here, several years ago, where Donald Trump has done a lot of things for the black folks. He certainly gave him a lot of kudos for what he did for them. I would add—Mr. Jackson, Jesse Jackson—who has an office in Chicago—what has he done for the black people in Chicago? I can honestly say that I don’t see that he has done anything for them, for all the 13-14 murders they have just about every week. I think Mr. Trump cares more about black people than Jesse Jackson does. When Mr. Trump is elected president, we’ll see what happens. Have a good day.
When George Bush and Dick Cheney went into war regarding weapons of mass destruction, they were not the ones that did the investigation and came back and said there were weapons of mass destruction. They took the word of the people that did the investigation. You need to get over it. They were not responsible for the investigation. They took the word of the people doing it. People can be wrong; people can make misstates. But Bush and Cheney did not do the investigation. Someone else did, and they took their word and so they went in, trying to protect us.
I notice all the people writing and calling in, saying how great Trump is. If Trump is all that great, why is it the Republican National Convention Republicans have refused to even speak of him being our president as well as also none of them coming forward—none of them want to be his vice president as well. Thank you.
Our President came on television July 7 to make an announcement pertaining to the two black men that were shot by policemen. During that speech, he mentioned, as always, racism. Shortly after that speech we were having another protest in Dallas, Texas. Twelve policemen were shot; five killed. The shooter said he wanted to kill white people, especially white policemen. Our President could have waited until the investigation of the shooting of the two black men had finished before blaming racism.
