Looking for ...
Hi. I am a single, disabled mother of three, and I’m looking for storage bins to put me and my kids’clothes in temporarily because we don’t have any dressers. And we are in dire, desperate need of large storage bins. If anyone has any for donation, gently used or excellent condition, please give me a call at 757-310-9557.
Too many put downs
It saddens me to see how often people in the Last Word go out of their way to put others down. I understand that venting is a way to release frustrations in your own life; however, I hardly see how that warrants personal attacks based on a single paragraph in a newspaper. The Last Word explicitly states, "no personal attacks, please," and the column refuses to publish damaging opinions of local businesses, so I don't see why they consistently publish the newspaper version of cyberbullying. Though I am not naïve enough to think that my comment will stop this miserable pattern, I do hope that, with enough support, the Gazette will stop publishing these blatant rule breakers' hateful remarks. Finally, if you have been hurt in the past by members of your own community, please remember that happy, confident people do not inconvenience themselves to anonymously and publicly hurt and humiliate you.
A quote from a recent commentary article on Airbnb rentals said, "Neighbors are encouraged to self-police their own communities" reminded me of a similar slogan used by the Stasi, East Germany's state security service. "Kommen Sie zu uns--sonst kommen wir zu Ihnen!" (Come to us otherwise we'll come to you!) So be a loyal comrade ... report your neighbor's capitalistic treachery.
Better internet service
I visited a relative in D.C. recently and had a big shock. My relative has FiOS. I could not believe he had such super internet service. His download speed was three times better than mine on Cox. His upload speed was four times better than mine on Cox. All this for the exact same price I pay for Cox! The final smack down, his download and upload speeds were consistent all day! My Cox speeds vary widely all day. Cox should be ashamed of the quality and pricing of their internet service. I'm ashamed that our town is so rural that we have to accept a substandard system.
The Republicans are unbelievable. They have a fellow who defeated 16 other contestants in the primaries. Some don’t like him, but a whole lot of voters apparently did. Now we have a delegate from Virginia who does not like the fact that his guy lost and is suing so he doesn’t have to vote for the winner on the first ballot. So why did he even want to be a delegate to the convention if he might not like the outcome? He fits right in with the rest of the sorry Virginia Republican Party which is afraid to have a primary for the people might want to choose who runs. They surely can’t pick anyone as sorry as the “establishment” did in the last election cycle.
Yes, I just found some astounding news that I think our community should be aware of, that the Congressman Elijah Cummings was on the Whitewater Committee, where he got a lot of the Whitewater people off, including Hillary Clinton. That is why he has been very, very supportive of her over the years. He is a man that cannot be trusted in any way. Thank you.
To all of you who are so upset with Hillary and her emails; you honestly think Trump would be better? He has thousands of lawsuits pending against him, he regularly contradicts himself, and his foreign policy ideas consist of walls, bans, and nuclear arms for all.
To the person who commented that "Say what you want about Trump, but at least he says what he means..." You see, that's exactly the point. When he mocks people with disabilities, he is saying what he means. When he makes disparaging remarks about women and minorities, he is saying what he means. When he conducts wholesale attacks on religious and ethnic groups, he is saying what he means. When he praises the likes of Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Saddam Hussein, he is saying what he means. These comments go to the very heart of who Donald Trump really is. Do you actually want this man to be your president? Paul Ryan, when asked if he would advise his fellow Republicans to vote for Donald Trump, said, "I would tell them to vote their conscience." In November, please vote your conscience. Thank you.
