Last word on insurance premiums, Oct. 27

Insurance premiums

Obama promised that his Affordable Care Act would save us money. Since it started, our premiums have gone from $4,000 per year to $18,000 per year. The ACA is a tax that is draining the middle class. Even Bill Clinton thinks that this scheme is crazy.

Scary parenting

I cannot believe what I just witnessed at the Monticello Post Office. A father left his infant toddler strapped in the car seat, with the windows down, the car unlocked and running, while he went in to do whatever he had to do. Five minutes later, he came back out thankfully to see his daughter or son. That child could have been gone.

More on Merchants Square

Additional information on the compton/rouso on Market Square in Williamsburg:  I found emails from people who really know the story. Too much information for the Last Word, but if you are interested in more on the tree, email me at jaustin5@widomaker.com and I will forward the information to you.

Fright nights

My family went for a walk at Colonial Williamsburg and we noticed black-clothed ghost figures near the Capitol Building facing the jail or gaol. We understand somewhat why Busch Gardens has ghosts and such because this is an amusement park and it seems that many people enjoy being frightened, but having ghosts at Colonial Williamsburg seems odd. This is an actual historical city where George Washington and Thomas Jefferson walked! So it is somewhat disrespectful to have ghosts and the like at CW. People visiting Colonial Williamsburg are drawn there for the history, not for the nonsense or fright. We already have enough nonsense and scariness in Washington now.

Moving doctors

Is anyone else disappointed and concerned about the number of physicians leaving Sentara in town? The best sleep disorders specialist you'd ever find has to leave, and they are shutting down his practice there. We have had Sentara physicians exclusively for 19 years, and now are forced to go to Riverside for a sleep specialist because the closest Sentara one will be Hampton! We liked it when all our medical information was readily available in the Sentara system for all our physicians to access. Several physicians have left the cardiology group and been replaced by doctors we are not acquainted with.  Although I am sure they are good, we're wondering what is going on!

Rules of the road

This is for the gentleman in his Mercedes on North Henry Street who was impatient and expected people to pull out onto oncoming traffic so that he could get to where he was going. He was in such a big hurry he could not wait. When you’re parked behind a truck, you do not pull out onto oncoming traffic. So you’d better read your manual.

Presidential politics

The subject is presidential election. Now that the American people have chosen the two worst presidential candidates in recent memory, where do we go from here?  Short of voting for a third party candidate, we must redirect our focus on the party platforms and what their positions are on such issues as terrorism, national defense, the sanctity of life, immigration, the economy including health reform, education, marriage, religious freedom and the future of our federal courts. So, please get out and voted. It’s both a privilege as well as our duty as American citizens.

I don't understand, so I'm hoping some of my left-leaning friends will help. I earned a BS in psychology and I earned a M.Ed. in Human Resource Development. My spouse earned  a BA and an MA, but all of that book learnin' ain't helpin' me understand somethin'.  If the party of Barack and Hillary is the party of peace, understanding, and tolerance, then how come we are the only house on our block that had a Trump/Pence sign on our lawn and, I repeat, are the only house that had our sign stolen? All of the Clinton/Kaine signs are still standing.  Is it because we are so deplorable? Just wondering...

It is obvious to any clear thinking American that our federal judicial system is corrupt. The current Department of Justice is only the latest, but probably the worst, example, of partisanship and dishonesty.  One way to cure this in the future is to legislate a requirement that the Attorney General cannot be a member of the same political party as the President.  Just maybe, in that event, there would be a chance at equal justice.
