Last Word on school issues, Aug. 25

There's too much out there about pubs, bars, breweries, etc. Do we have an alcohol problem?

Looking for ...

In regard to the person wanting to sell gold coins:  He should call Guy DeWolf, 229-5544. His coin shop is located on Penniman Road. I have been doing business with him for 34 years and you will not find a nicer and more honest person. He’s also a veteran. So I would go see Guy DeWolf on Penniman Road.

School issues

I wish teachers would stop complaining about their raises, or lack of.  They, along with their liberal cohorts, made many pushes with legislation that allowed the Federal Government to mandate programs in the schools that have to be funded, by law, even though critics said the money wasn't there.  Now they are reaping what they sew. Quit complaining; you got what you wanted.

On behalf of many of the WJCC staff and teachers, why hasn't the convocation been cancelled for next Friday? The need for the dog-and-pony show is over, it is a waste of time, gas and taxpayer money for the rental of the Chapel and teachers only have 3.5 days out of 8 to get their plans and rooms ready for the students and the coming year. I love my colleagues but I will have seen them all the day before at the divison-wide professional development session. There is no rational or logical reason to continue to have this except sheer stubborness on the part of Central Office. Call it off already!

I second the positive review of Fantastic Sam's off John Tyler. Not only is RJ a wonderful stylist but Cynda is outstanding as well. She only works on Mondays but its definitely worth working around her schedule!

Police shootings

To the writer who thinks the black community should define when the use of deadly force is necessary by police:  It’s simple.  Simple, when the alleged suspect is putting someone’s or the officer’s life in jeopardy. Just because the young man in Milwaukee had a firearm, doesn’t give the police the right to kill him. He was running away from the police as most suspects do; he did not attempt to endanger the life of the officer or anyone else for that matter. The writer’s ignorance is very apparent. But I do agree with the writer that law enforcement should stay out of the high crime areas, because it appears that they are the biggest perpetrators.

Too much about alcohol

It is really amazing to see so many articles in our local papers about pubs, bars, breweries, taverns, etc. Is it any wonder why alcohol is such a major problem?  All sorts of crimes, including drunk driving, and serious health effects many times can be attributed to the use of alcohol.

Health insurance

To the reader who chastized the nephew for being on Obamacare and quote “I shouldn’t have to subsidize your nephew, or anyone else’s health care insurance costs,” I have news for you, you do and others in turn will subsidize your health care costs.  You think all those with health insurance pay their own way? They don’t.  Most people don’t pay into their plan the amount they oftentimes require for health care.   After a significant medical event, others who pay into the same insurance company are subsidizing the cost, including you. Others with insurance -- including those with Obamacare -- will have their premiums increased because health care prices will go up to absorb that unpaid bill.  You hate Obamacare but when your injury requires that you file for SS disability, you see that as an entirely different issue.  It’s not! You think you paid into Medicare all the monies you will need for health care after you turn 65. You didn’t!  Others will at some point subsidize your care. SS and Medicare bills are paid by those who are working. Monies we will consume from those entitlement programs during our lifetime will not be limited by the monies we paid into those programs.  They will be subsidized, including yours!

Presidential politics

Regarding the Last Word item disagreeing about not voting because one does not like either of the two candidates;  I, too, think they should still vote.  For those normally Democrat-leaning voters who cannot abide the ethical challenges of Hillary Clinton, I suggest you make your displeasure known by voting for Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate.  For Republican-leaning voters who cannot stomach the clownish behavior of Donald Trump, I likewise suggest you make your displeasure known by voting for former New Mexico Governor, Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate.  To all, don’t let your disappointment in the major party candidates prevent you from demonstrating your displeasure at their candidates – Vote!

When the person stated that they wouldn’t vote for an “ignorant, bigoted bully,” I just knew that this person was not talking about voting for Hillary, because what else is she? You know, she’s ignorant in the fact that she thinks other people are stupid and that she is above them—she’s an elitist. She’s a bully because she knows better about how people should live, and she’s bigoted because if people don’t believe the way she believes, then those people are wrong. So, that’s exactly what she is! That is so funny. Anyway, have a good day. You are right. People should vote. If you get to that fork, take it.
