A woman wanted in connection to a single-car accident on Monticello Avenue turned herself into the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, according to city police.

Rebecca Anna Lynn “Ginger” Bruhwell has been charged with driving with a suspended license and felony hit and run in the early Sunday morning accident that injured one person, according to Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley.

The accident took place at about 2:30 a.m. on Monticello Avenue between Compton Drive and Ironbound Road, Riley said. According to witnesses, the driver fled the scene before police arrived, Riley said.

The Williamsburg Fire Department extracted the injured passenger, who was flown to VCU Medical Center in Richmond and remains in critical condition, Riley said.
