William and Mary student assaulted on Dillard Street

Dec. 5 update: A student from the College of William and Mary was crossing Richmond Road near Dillard Street Friday evening when a turning vehicle nearly hit the student, said Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department.

After a verbal exchange, Riley said the driver got out of his car and pushed the student before driving away.

Original story: A student from the College of William and Mary was assaulted Friday evening on Dillard Street near Richmond Road, according to a news alert from the university.

The incident involved a male suspect who exited his vehicle and approached the student, according to Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department.

Riley said there were no injuries.

The suspect is described as a short, middle-aged man with balding hair, wearing a dark grey or blue sweatshirt and blue jeans, according to the alert. He reportedly drove a red, four-door hatchback.

Riley said the student who was involved reported the incident out of concern that the suspect was intoxicated. The student didn't want to pursue charges for assault, Riley said.
