Williamsburg Christian Academy starts season with a win

Coming off a Virginia Independent Schools Division III championship season, Williamsburg Christian Academy beat Life Christian 89-65 Thursday in the Eagles season opener.

WCA raced out to a 25-8 first quarter lead and extended that margin over the course of the game.

Da’Shawn Cook scored 29 points and Radford University-bound Cle’von Greene had 28 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three assists for the Eagles.

Greene is the reigning VISAA Division 3 player of the year and will join 2016 WCA graduate Nissa Chillers at Radford.

The Eagles return four players from their state championship team a season ago.

Rotary Invitational Basketball Jamboree

Several area boys and girls high school basketball teams will take part in the upcoming Rotary Invitational Basketball Jamboree, hosted by Williamsburg Christian Academy.

Jamestown, which reached the Group 4A championship game last season, is among the boys teams taking part.

Boys games will take place Friday, Nov. 24 and girls teams will play Saturday. See the schedule of games:

Friday, Nov. 24 — Boys’ games

Denbigh vs. WCA, 10 a.m.

Jamestown vs. Cape Henry Collegiate, 11 a.m.

Jamestown vs. Norfolk Collegiate, 1 p.m.

Denbigh vs. Cape Henry Collegiate, 2 p.m.

WCA vs. Norfolk Collegiate, 3 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 25 — Girls’ games

Bethel vs. Surry County, 10 a.m.

Jamestown vs. Norfolk Collegiate, 11 a.m.

Lafayette vs. Surry County, noon

Norfolk Christian vs. Denbigh, 1 p.m.

Lafayette vs. Bethel, 2 p.m.

Jamestown vs. Denbigh, 3 p.m.

Tickets are $5.

Head of the Chick Regatta

The Head of the Chick Regatta featured 16 teams participating in 34 events Nov. 11 at Riverfront Park.

The Williamsburg Boat Club won the men’s junior race, the men’s novice race, the women’s junior lightweight and finished second in the women’s masters race.

Event communications manager Kristin Downey said 1,000 people attended the regatta.
