Prep roundup: Schriner named Class 4A Player of the Year

Jamestown’s Emma Schriner was named the Class 4A volleyball player of the year, following a season in which the Eagles reached the semifinals before falling to Grafton.

Schriner, a Tennessee commit, also made the first-team Under Armour All-America team.

Schriner’s teammates, Madison Pettengell and Madison Kolda, were second-team selections.

Boys basketball

Radford commit Cle’von Greene had 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead Williamsburg Christian Academy to a 90-65 win Tuesday over Atlantic Shores in its Metro Conference opener.

Da’Shawn Cook added 23 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals, and Ra’Shawn Cook contributed 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals in WCA’s win. Greene also had five assists.

WCA (5-0) followed that up with an 82-24 win over Denbigh Baptist Thursday. Jalen Vaughn had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, Malachi Banks added 16 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, and Kivinie Johnson had 14 points. ...

Keyshawn Jefferson had 41 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists Wednesday night to guide Lafayette to a 78-55 season-opening home victory over Smithfield.

The Packers’ Marcus Custis had 13 points, four assists and two steals. ...

Josh Moore poured in 33 points as Grafton won 65-51 at Warhill. Antonio Stovall scored 10 for the Lions.

Girls basketball

Smithfield (2-0) beat Lafayette Tuesday 59-29 in the Bay Rivers District opener for both teams. The Rams (1-1) rebounded Thursday with a 30-24 win over Warhill (1-1).

Jamestown took the next shot at Smithfield, but came up short in a 55-33 loss. The Eagles had a 12-8 lead after the first quarter and trailed by just four at halftime before the Packers pulled away. ...

Brianna Harper scored the 1,000th point of her career as she netted a game-high 30 points Thursday night to lead Tabb to a 50-29 victory against Bay Rivers District rival York. ...

Sondra Fan scored 22 points to lead Poquoson (2-0) to a 48-41 victory against Grafton (0-2). Nijah Green scored 15 for the Clippers. ...

Walsingham Academy got 10 points and 13 rebounds from eighth-grader Julia Wilson, but it wasn’t enough in a 50-33 opening-game loss Wednesday to St. Margaret’s. Junior Cat Williams had nine points and 18 rebounds for the Trojans.
