JAMES CITY - A county man is facing two felony charges after police say he choked another man and used his own head to break multiple bones in the man's face.

Kenneth D. Sturgell, 30, was arrested Saturday and charged with malicious wounding and strangulation, both felonies, and intimidating a witness, according to police.

James City Police Deputy Chief Stephen Rubino said the altercation, which occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on July 3, began as a argument and escalated. He said the incident took place at a residence on Elbow Beach Lane.

A criminal complaint against Sturgell states the man told police that Sturgell headbutted him in the face, breaking his nose in two places and fracturing his right eye socket. After headbutting the man, Sturgell knocked him to the ground and began to choke him, Rubino said.

Rubino said Sturgell also threatened to kill the man. Sturgell told the man, "You call the police and I'll kill you." According to the complaint, Sturgell also warned the man not to seek a protective order because he would still hunt him down and kill him.

The man was treated at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center on July 4 for his injuries, which included a broken nose, fractured eye socket and a concussion.
