W-JCC Board may award $21.8 million middle school contract Tuesday

WILLIAMSBURG - Acting Williamsburg-James City County schools Superintendent Olwen Herron is recommending the School Board award a contract to build the new middle school at its Tuesday meeting.

Herron is recommending for the board to award the $21.8 million contract to Oyster Point Construction Company, of Newport News.

The district is planning for construction to be completed on the three-story, 109,045-square-foot building in time for the 2018-19 school year.

Five contractors responded to an invitation for bid posted by James City County, and Oyster Point’s was the lowest responsive and responsible bid, according to school district documents.

Herron is also recommending the board approve a year-end spending plan which has been modified since the board’s work session earlier this month.

The revised proposal allocates funds for eight school buses, $1.5 million toward the Lafayette gym construction and $170,000 toward the value engineering and construction management of the Lafayette gym.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the James City County Government Center. 101 Mounts Bay Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
