Girl Scout cookies are a treat in themselves. To further temp the palate, the Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast Council will pair wine with their famous cookies at Cookies & Corks at the Williamsburg Winery.
Set for Oct. 28, the pairing will feature all the favorite Girl Scout cookies including the new S'mores, said Marcy Germanotta, communications and marketing director for GSCCC.
The wine list will be revealed at the pairing, said Kelly Kincaid, events coordinator for Williamsburg Winery. Kincaid said there will be five different wines paired with Girl Scout cookies. Event attendees will receive a souvenir wine glass.
The two-hour event will also have cheese and vegetables and drawings for prizes, Kincaid added.
Germanotta said Williamsburg Winery's Vice President and Winemaker Matthew Meyer is familiar with pairing their wines with Girl Scout cookies because their wines were featured at the Samoa Soiree earlier this year.
Like the Soiree, this adults-only event allows for Girl Scout alums to socialize, said Robin Thomas, individual giving manager for GSCCC.
"We are trying more to connect our alumni so they can use their Girl Scout experience to their advantage," Thomas said. She stressed the event is open to everyone, she noted.
The proceeds will benefit the council's programming.
"We've made a commitment to help those who want to participate in Girl Scouts but may not have the financial resources to do so," Thomas said.
Last year more than 1,400 girls benefited with financial help from fund-raising events such as this, teaching them life and career preparation skills, she said.
"We've added more STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) badges. This year we will introduce 18 new science and engineering badges," Thomas said.
In addition, research shows that girls who participate in Girl Scouts gain confidence and are more likely to take leadership roles as adults, Thomas said.
Tickets are $55 each. They can be purchased by visiting the GSCCC website at www.GSCCC.org.
